On Friday, 27th May, 2022, the Platforms Communications, organizers of the Annual Maritime Students and Youth (AMSAY) Conference rolled out their drums again for yet another happy returns of the maritime and transport-only related students and stakeholders forum for all the tertiary education institutions across Nigeria. This year (2022)’s edition took place at the popular Rock View Hotel, Park Lane, Apapa, Lagos with more than thirty (30) different higher institutions of learning in attendance, making about five hundred (500) students participating yearly.
Having as its theme, Job Creation for Nigerian Youths Through Maritime Sector, this (2022) edition is the 6th in the series. Among the important activities of the day was usually paper presentations. The lead paper, tagged The Youth and Prospects of Job Creation Through Maritime Sector: Maximizing Cabotage, Local Content and Everything In-Between, was delivered by Barr. Temisan OMATSEYE, a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA); with Prof. Calistus IBE of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) as Moderator. The second paper was presented by Prof. Samuel Iyiola ONI of the University of Lagos which was moderated by Prof. (Capt.) Abiodun SULE, Executive Director, Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research (NIOMR). Discussants at the paper presentation sessions included Alhaji Aminu UMAR, Dr. (Mrs.) Felicia Chinwe MOGO, Captain Williams Rotimi OGUNSAKIN, Captain (Dr.) Fola OJUTALAYO, and Dr. M.K George ONYUNG, President, Ship Owners Association of Nigeria (SOAN). AMSAY Conference’s most attractive, overwhelmingly-interesting and un-arguably intriguing event, as far as showering accolades and show-casing of academic stardom and scholarly recognition, had remained the BEGMASA (Best-Graduated Maritime Students Award) session! This year, Crown Maritime Academy, CMA produced the winner of “Nigeria’s 2020/2021 Best-Graduated Student in Transport and Logistics Management” who outscored the students from the other higher institutions of learning, to clinch the award with 4.54 CGPA indeed, a 1st Class result!!!
