It was celebrations galore on Saturday, 30th October, 2021 in Cotonou, Benin Republic at the Convocation of the Class of 2020 graduates of the Ecole Superieure de Gestion et de Technologie (ESGT) University. Why the celebrations? Dr. Musa Adesina Godsend AKINYEMI, Rector of Crown Maritime Academy, CMA graduated with a First Class (B.Sc.) Honours Degree in Transport and Logistics Management, gathering a whopping 4.54 CGPA altogether!
The Rector had been eminently qualified all along though, having started life as a school teacher under the Ogun State Ministry of Education in Nigeria from 1979 to 1982.
He re-located to Lagos to study Shipping and Transport Administration between 1982 and 1984 and became an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Transport (CIT) of London in 1990. He had a stint at the National Maritime Authority (NMA) which is now NIMASA and was a senior staff of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Apapa in Lagos from 1991 to 1996. An exile for five (5) years in Cote d’Ivoire, M.A.G. Akinyemi was in 2015 recognized as an achiever and honoured with a Doctorate Degree by the Commonwealth University, Belize and the London Graduate School, Oxford Close, London. Among others, Dr. Musa AKINYEMI has also, at different times, been recognized and honoured as follows: “Who’s Who in Nigeria’s Management Intelligence”; Fellow, Institute of Management Consultants (FIMC) and Certified Management Consultant (CMC); Member, International Association of Marine and Shipping Professionals (MIAMSP) of Geneva, Switzerland; et al.
A former post-graduate student of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State of Nigeria, the Rector needed an academic first degree as a pre-requisite for a Doctorate in Law (Juris Doctor), JD of the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Australia. First, his desire to yet be a qualified lawyer; second, the willingness to submit to the stipulated intellectual conditions; eventually confirm him as one of the best in academics and professionalism, till date.
The Rector was later honoured (back in Nigeria) as the Best-Graduated Transport and Logistics Management Student in Nigeria (2020/2021) during the Annual Maritime Students And Youth (AMSAY) Conference at the Rock View Hotel, Apapa, Lagos on Friday, 27th May, 2022.
